Liaoning Shihua University
Liaoning Shihua University was founded in 1950and has now become a multidisciplinary university with petrochemical engineering as its major feature. The campus, located in the city of Fushun of Northeast China, covers an area of 134 hectares with a built-up area of 564,000 m2, a campus library with 1.53 million books, a total capital of $ 90 million and the equipment value for teaching and research reaching $ 11 million. By the end of 2007, it has a teaching staff of 872 members including 119 professors and 238 associate professors, 77 staff members with a PhD degree and 228 with an MA, and a student population of 21,000 graduates and undergraduates. There are 15 schools, which include Schools of Petrochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information and Control Engineering and Economic Administration, 2 doctorate programs and 26 master’s programs, 7 programs for masters of engineering, 3 specialties for dual bachelor’s degree and 44 undergraduates specialties and 23 vocational specialties.
As an important part of education of Liaoning Shihua University, overseas students education is establishing an ideal platform for those who study Han-culture and also significant stage for mutual communication between Chinese and international students. The school enrolls almost 1000 long or short-term students from USA, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Russia and Inner Mongolia with its development from primarily language training programs to the combination of both language and undergraduate programs. This university has been active in the promotion of academic exchange and educational cooperation. Since the school was founded, it has established long-term partnerships with 20 institutions of higher education and scientific research from more than 10 countries, such as Britain, the America, Australia, Finland, Belgium, Russia, Egypt, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam. The school participated in the “1+2+1, 1+3 and 2+1+3 Sino-US, Sino-France Collaborative Training Program”. We have reached “2+2” and “4+1” agreements with world famous universities like the University of Edinburgh of Britain, the Southern Cross University of Australia, Ufa Petroleum University of Russia, the Kazan State University of Technology of Russia, and Ecole Superieure D’ingenieurs en Genie Electricque-Esigelec Rouen of France. At present, there are 9 groups of students studying or finishing studying in UK, Belgium, Russia, US and France. We are undertaking yearly sending visiting scholars mutually fro and to Higher Education Funds in Korea, Youming Higher Industrial School in Japan, Mingxing University in Japan. Our university supplies plenty of learnable experiences for teaching, scientific researching and managing through students and teachers exchange, scientific research program cooperation and academic meetings. Now the university has 86 long-term overseas students and 12 short-term overseas students.
