Let me tell you about my self , that i had not prepared for theoretical exam, and i passed it first time, but i had to prepare for ENT and OPTHO for practical part, and i passed the practical 2nd time.
So what i feel about NEB EXAM is that the main thing which you need to pass the exam is your core concepts which are built in the last 5 years of your study, if those arent strong enough, your preparation for couple of months or so would help you little and you have to review those concepts which you think are not well understood.
For practical part, your approach towards the patient should look like the professional way, so for that you have to develop deep interest in INTERNSHIP PROGRAM, learn maximum in this period, learn how to deal with any patient in a professional way. DO NOT BUNK the part or whole INTERNSHIP , as some people do it not considering it important.

    GOOD LUCK EVERY ONE

Step 1 - From my experience, Step 1 was the toughest out of all the exams. The MCQ was a killer. They asked about things that I hadn't even heard of. So for step 1, I would advise everyone to focus on the core topics. Don't get stuck trying to study too many details because then you will forget the basics. The main aim is to score as high as you can in your SAQ so that even if your MCQ doesn't go well (and I don't think it went well for any of us) you still have a good chance of passing. Tip for SAQ - write as much as you know about the topic they're asking about. because then you have a better chance of including key words that the examiners are looking for in the answer. But keep an eye on the time too.
Do past years. And Dow BCQ books. Just to get an idea of the type of questions.

Step 2 - PAST YEAR QUESTIONS!!! very important. especially for eye, ent, dermato. Most likely they will repeat from that. I noticed later that they had taken questions from previous VIVA examinations and put that in the Step 2 SAQ. So revise the viva questions also in your preparation. Focus on basics again. Highlight topics that are popular in past year questions and revise them well. Questions are based on case scenario. So be familiar with that format. Discuss with friends whatever topics you have difficulty in. Or at least discuss past years because then you will remember the answers better.

Step 3 - If you've had clinical training before as part of your education, then this should be a breeze. All the doctors are very nice. They're trying to help you pass. Just be professional, don't do unnecessary examinations (you only have 5 mins!), do the examination steps in order. Mostly, just be calm so that you can think and answer. They asked a ridiculous number of questions for our static (written answer) stations with hardly any time to answer them properly. So just try to answer the questions as fast as possible. Everything was very basic for the Viva. No need to really study for it. Just need to spend time in the hospital examining patients and do the past year questions.

I passed all the exams on my first attempt so I thought I should give others some advice and encouragement. Good luck.
