    A 21-year-old woman presents with a 24 hour history of right iliac fossa pain. She is apyrexial with a tachycardia of 100 bpm and on examination she is focally tender approximately 4 cm below McBurney's point. A pregnancy test is negative. Urinalysis is normal.
